Question from a Newbie I haven't seen anywhere

Greetings all! I'm not really an investor. I had a very very small amount of play money that I had to get the feel for day-trading and learn what Crypto is about. I've noticed something, and quick math isn't helping, so I have to be missing something. Some of the more volatile low-end alts hover at like, 30-50cents. I'm curious, is there reason people don't continuously just flip in these ranges? For example, if you had 1000 Coin of something going for 0.00050 (trying to pick easy numbers for simplicity, but realistic of small-end coins for the example), you could sell that for 0.50 Eth. However, 0.1% of that goes to Binance, leaving you with 0.49995 Eth. Now if the coins volatile and bounces a lot, you can wait for it to drop to say even just 0.00048. You buy back in. This gets you 1041 of said coin. Rinse and repeat if it bounces a lot. Is this a common practice in Crypto Markets, or am I missing something and this is actually really dumb? submitted by

Using gdax for first time...im confused

I bought £50 ethereum from coinbase and sent it to their gdax everything fine so far, so, I sell my ethereum for bitcoin. I then wait for bitcoin to dip, but also to re enter back into ethereum (I made sure ethereum was lower than when I sold). So I sold high, bought low, then sold high and bought low (making sure I bought back at a lower rate than it was when I sold) so I should have got more than I started with. But, I have a fraction less. I'm lost, unless my investment was simply too small to reflect a difference. any ideas submitted by /u/blowfish2017 [link] [comments] Read More

Does anyone have any experience using CoinEgg.com as an exchange?

Pretty much title, is it legit? Not seeing a lot about them, just some announcements from various projects that their coins are trading on the exchange, and some older posts indicating that CoinEgg is a rebranded Jubi following the Chinese crypto-ban. What is Encrypgen ("DNA")? An overview

Hello Reddit. I recently received a PM from someone asking me to share my research notes on Encrypgen (DNA). In the end, it turned out I'd done quite a bit more research than I'd realised, and I ended out writing a small essay. I thought I'd also just share them with all of you. NOTE: I do not hold any "DNA". I bought in at 0.15, and sold at 0.25, and I haven't bought back in. I was going to buy more after I wrote this out but then decided the better thing to do would be to submit it here first. Don't wanna be accused of shilling! Anyhow, here was my overview: "Sure thing. The tech/fundamentals: Encrypgen (DNA) solves a real-world issue regarding human genomic sequencing. It's incredibly difficult for organisations to collect and store genomic data because people don't like the idea of their health-related data belonging to a company (and obviously, at risk of data breaches or misuse). It's therefore very difficult for scientists and

Just thought I'd share a new crypto app we've been working on recently "Scoop Markets". Using natural language processing, we are able to identify market moving (cryptocurrency) news / TA from Twitter, before the markets move. We haven't officially launched yet but have released a beta version to try and get some feedback. Would be really keen to hear any thoughts! Blockfolio not showing GDAX

I recently started using Blockfolio to track my holdings. I started off using Coinbase for all my transactions but now I’ve switched to GDAX to avoid the fees. Will keeping Coinbase as my default exchange to record transactions on Blockfolio give me accurate portfolio values? Or do the prices differ even though Coinbase owns GDAX? Is there another app you’d recommend over Blockfolio? submitted by /u/JoeUsedCarSales [link] [comments] Read More

Why is daytrading talked about so badly?

Hi everyone, so I am new to the cryptocurrency scene and have been slightly interested in daytrading cryptos like bitcoin. From what I have seen on the internet it seems like most people highly advise against the idea of attempting to day trade. I have spent some time just watching the bitcoin price charts and buying the lows and selling the highs doesn't seem too difficult(I know all of you will say it is very difficult). From the charts that I have watched the line seems to go down close to a support line and then back up in a pattern. What am I not catching? It just seems too easy to daytrade but so many people say you will lose money doing it. submitted by /u/pungis0 [link] [comments] Read More

Is BTC Markets legit? No response from them despite multiple attempts at support request.

I have been trying to contact BTC Markets support staff via their website and via twitter for several days now to sort out a problem with my account and no one has responded. Starting to wonder if about how legit btcmarkets is when I can't even get a simple support request responded to? If these guys are sketchy, can someone please suggest a reputable alternative. Congressman Jared Polis on Crypto in early 2014. fascinating read.

This was an email I received on 3/14/14. I presume someone was trying to ban bitcoin at the time and I probably sent him an automated message from change.com or something and got this back. Can crypto/alts survive as a form of legalized video game gambling?

Ive been thinking about the "value" of alts and what the end game is for some of these coins. Why do they exist? How do they reach their potential? There is no goal like there is for penny stock companies (to produce a profit). But does it matter? Can this space simply survive as a place where people participate in a highly simplified version of trading that is in essence a huge video game where you can actually make money? New coins are just characters and we all play this game of trying to outsmart each other. Its fun, and we may even make some money. Is that viable and sustainable model? submitted by /u/nicoy3k [link] [comments] Read More

Newcomer questions

Hi All, I'm new. I want to get into this and have some questions that hopefully someone can answer. 1) after creating a Coinbase account and buying some BTC or ETH, how do I buy Alt Coins since I need an exchange? 1.a) which exchange is best in terms of response time/fees? 2) Once I own the Alt Coins, where do I store them (since I keep reading that it's not good to store on the exchange)? Any recommendations? 3) My strategy is to buy and hold for 6 months+. How do I track the progress of my portfolio in an easy way (i.e. I need some kind of tracker where I input the price at which I bought and the %inc/dec in portfolio)? 4) Say I make some decent money (fingers crossed), what is the best way to sell on an exchange from my (physical/paper?) wallet and convert back to USD or any other currency? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/TheRealDimz [link] [comments] Read More

What are all the functions of alt-coins/tokens? Seems like they are not just competing mediums of exchange, but also a kind of stock offering

I have been trying to understand the alt-currency market so that I can invest, seems like there is more to it than just a ton of different variations of bitcoin competing to be the ultimate crypto currency that achieves adoption. For example the cute cat currency (seems like blatant gambling); the virtual reality blockchain (seems kind of like a video game currency); the aeroplane tokens (seems like a stock offering to fund their blockchain innovation for airplane safety, but I don't see why any type of business even unrelated to blockchain or tech could not use this crypto token model to get investment without the regulatory hurdles of trying to release stocks on the market). ICON Hype Pulse Check + Price Check

Source and for more information: Speculative Rationality - 13 Dec 13Dec: Price Speculation & Hype Roundup With the ICON team confirming that Token unlock checks are underway and that exchange talks are taking place this is an opportune time for some lighthearted price speculation and a pulse check on hype. Price Check The rapid price appreciation in the crypto space over the last few months means that the value per ICX in USD terms will need to be marked at almost 2.5x pre-sale price just to keep pace with Ethereum price appreciation (ETH has gone from ~USD300 -> ~USD680). We will assume ETH price is USD680 (current at time of writing for below calculations). Price at Pre Sale 1 ICX = 0.0004 ETH = ~USD0.12 (based on ETH price of ~USD300 at time of Pre Sale) Price Now (If ICX trades at the same ETH ratio that it sold for at pre-sale) 1 ICX = 0.0004 ETH = ~USD0.27 (based on ETH price of ~USD680.0 at time of writing) **HitBTC IOUs ( though this is notoriously inaccurate )

Are there ANY secure exchanges for buying Bitcoin that aren't down/not verifying identity right now?

I have been eager to get started investing, but have been unable to do so. Coinbase is not verifying my identity and bittrex is taking a long time as well. I'd like to buy bitcoin on an exchange and use that bitcoin to invest in altcoins, if that makes any difference, but any and every site I try either looks suspicious or plain doesn't work. Introducing r/WeTheCrypto - New subreddit to compliment r/CryptoMarkets and to further our crypto curiosity

Reddit is a fantastic source of information, and subreddits like r/CryptoMarkets help cultivate important discussions about the emerging technology of blockchain, variations of it, and investment strategies surrounding these technologies. But as the size of this subreddit rapidly expands, the access to pertinent information dwindles. With each moon vs. lambo argument, we lose the ability to decipher insight from misinformation.   We are looking to consolidate all of the best and most substantiated arguments into one heavily monitored subreddit. The sleepless market generates more information than mainstream news outlets can report on, and the stories we eventually receive offer biased and shallow analysis focused on generating clicks, site traffic, and increasing viewership. On Reddit, Twitter, Telegram, Slack, and other communication platforms, we seek real time information, but struggle to navigate truth from fiction. Spectrecoin - has the ship sailed?

I was browsing a thread in /r/altcoin and many people were bullish on a coin I had never heard of caleld Spectrecoin. I rushed to Cryptopia to buy some, but then FUD kicked in: - If you look at the historical chart you see a double top. the first top was at the end of June and the top the start of September. Since then, it has steadily gone down 95% of the 20 million XSPEC were sold in an ICO to investors. That means that 95% of the holders want to sell and there needs to be sufficient incentive to buy for the price to rise. Because it is a PoS coin, I could conceivably buy it and stake it. But all in all I wonder if this coin will ever see any new ATHs. submitted by /u/metaperl [link] [comments] Read More

DAG (IOTA, XRB) : Bytes need more attention

In the world of DAG, I do think it's time for Byteball to get more attention. Yes, I know that for English-speaking people, the name is hilarious. I will pass on this topic. Like IOTA, Byteball is scalable. On the contrary, it doesn't use POW. It uses a Mainchain with a very small fee to include tx . So, there is an incentivization. Try it and you'll see : Byteball is very fast and never stops . Byteball also has an anonymous asset called : Blackbyte . You can buy them with GBYTE within the wallet. You won't find Blackbyte on traditional exchanges since it's totally private. I have just mentionned the wallet : it's the best I have ever seen (and I know that Ark and Neon are pretty cool too but this one is totally different). Use the light one (because the full node is very slow to sync). Within the wallet , you'll find an altcoin exchange performed by Changelly . It means you can switch very easily from byteball to other alts without going to any excha
