Why do all coins/token go up and down in unison?

been watching the Crypto market from a layman investor viewpoint over the past year and one thing is beginning to trouble me. Regardless that of the 100's of coins and tokens on the market, each with apparently it's own unique purpose and specialty. Some have been around for years and are fairly well established with actual real world business or personal application, adoption potential (i.e. bitcoin, ripple, ethereum and possibly dash) and all the others which are newer, theoretical and not really proven, without any real world practical value. Essentially second rate copies of the upper tier blockchains ( i.e iota, eos, antshares, NEM). Yet they all have relative value? The market just has just gone through a relatively healthy correction, paring down the massive gains seen since April, which is understandable. And now, I'm seeing a rebound back upwards but why are all coins rebounding up in unison? Shouldn't there be some sort of separation occurring between the

Layer 1 vs Layer 2 Crypto-Assets

So I don't know if you guys have read this blog post. If you haven't you should definitely give it read. http://ift.tt/2aALx7t Basically it goes into detail about layer 1 Crypto-assets (Ethereum, Bitcoin, Ripple), and layer 2 Crypto-assets (Ethereum Dapps, Maidsafe). The article says that if layer 2 applications become widely used, then the layer 1 token it is based off of will appreciate as well, because they become more valuable. Basically an example is that if something like Augur or Golem become successful and widely used, Ether will be in higher demand and the price will appreciate. Obviously this makes sense. My question is, does this mean Layer 1 investment is a smarter/safer choice? Is it worth investing in layer 2 assets at all? I am thinking of allocating a percent of my portfolio to higher risk layer 2 assets, because if one or two ethereum Dapps succeed, and the rest fail, those Dapp tokens will go up (theoretically) a higher % than just the Ethereum token. Bas

Do standard transaction fees apply on top of lending fees for Poloniex Margin Trading?

I posted this in r/bitcoinmarkets as well, but i'd like to make some quicker leveraged trades to take advantage of the volatility, but i don't want to pay .25% transaction fees 1,000x getting the hang of it. When a trade is opened, held, then closed, what is the break down of fees? Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/finleyohrstrom [link] [comments] Read More

Bitcoin Miners Miss the First BIP 148 Deadline

Bitcoin miners at large have missed the first BIP 148 deadline to prevent a split in Bitcoins blockchain. As Bitcoins scaling dispute appears to be heading for a climax, the next couple of weeks could prove pivotal. One scaling solution in particular, Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 148 BIP 148, is scheduled to trigger activation of Segregated Witness SegWit on August 1, 0000 UTC. As a User Activated Soft Fork UASF, all users that run a BIP 148 node will then start rejecting any and all blocks th
