I wanted to invest in some alt coins on Bittrex but I know that this can only be accomplished by transferring bitcoins first since it's a crypto to crypto exchange platform. I have bitcoins on gdax but not enough to be able to keep some and invest in alt coins. I wanna keep my current amount of BTC and buy additional ones to transfer on Bittrex (only the additional ones would be transferred). The thing I'm afraid of is that buying BTC now is not convenient or doesn't translate well if I wanna use these newly purchased btc to buy alt coins. I'm wondering what's the flaw in this plan: "go flat" on your position by shorting say the equivalent of 10 BTC (while keeping enough collateral to not get margin called) while at the same time buying 10 BTC (on another exchange if the exchange on which you short doesn't allow you to both short and long)... Then withdraw the 10 BTC you bought. Wait for the fork. Close your positions: close the short and sell the 10 BTC you bought. Pocket the 10 BTCsegwit2x difference you get from the fork.
