What happened in May of this year?

If you look at the charts for the most popular or well known coins including coins like Doge, the markets blew up and it seems we're riding whatever wave happened in May up until now. Was there some big news or something? It seems very weird that even small, hate to use the phrase but "shitcoins" like Doge getting a massive boost alongside Bitcoin, Litecoin and all other alts. submitted by /u/fiver420 [link] [comments] Read More

Worth investing smaller amounts of $ in high supply cryptos?

I got interested in crypto right before the BTG fork.I had a limited amount of money to spend on crypto of $10000,so i bought higher amounts of cryptos with lower supply.I've also spent a few dollars because of fomo,on coins like ripple, stellar, nem, cardano. So my question is if it's worth investing in those coins if i'm willing to spend only 2-300$ on them?It seems like i could only see returns of 100-200% in a year, which would be good if i had more money to invest in them.. submitted by /u/Infams [link] [comments] Read More

Deflation concerns and smart contract platforms

Hey, guys. I've been reading about cryptocurrencies and have a question. One criticism to bitcoin/altcoin as a currency is its deflation. Since its value is going up faster than it's being issued, there's an incentive not to spend it, but to hoard it instead. Why can I buy 1 thing when I can buy 1.05 thing tomorrow? And why buy it for 1.05 tomorrow when I can buy 1.20 things next week? This dynamic is in contrast with fiat currency which inflates, so there's an incentive to spend money and this fuels the economy. According to the criticism, a deflating currency just isn't too great at its job as a currency. How do you think cryptos with alternative uses, e.g. Ethereum, relate to this? Could their value hold up as primarily a smart contract platform instead of as a currency? How do you figure this will affect crypto prices in the near and distant futures? submitted by /u/Giroflex [link] [comments] Read More

Bittrex support issues

Hey all, not sure if this is relevant here but maybe someone can help me out. 2 days ago I submitted docs for enhanced verification which were approved within 5 min. When I went to make a trade however it informed me my account was locked. I made a ticket and submitted more docs but like I said thiswas 2 days ago. I normally wouldnt be impatient but it happened while I had positions that I intended to get out of very quickly. It's painful just watching my wallets bleed and not being able to do anything about it. Lots of googling mentions a slack channel but I cant get in there, and I'm not sure what to do here unless I just have to keep waiting. I almost feel like I'm being robbed haha. Currently lost about 3g's :| Thanks folks submitted by /u/KharonSilverhand [link] [comments] Read More

Increase Poloniex daily withdrawal limit above $25,000?

I have many millions in crypto, and I avoid Poloniex due to it's tiny daily limits. It takes me months to get my cryptos back into a hardware wallet after making a trade. There is other exchanges that offer higher/no limits, but they don't have the volume that Poloniex does. Any way to increase it? submitted by /u/succulentjuniper [link] [comments] Read More

Public API for daily data?

I know crypto trades 24/7 and that's why exchanges have 24hr volume and 24 price change but are there any APIs that make it possible to get this information for a specific day and not just a relative 24hr time period? submitted by /u/infinityCounter [link] [comments] Read More

Bitcoin Cash Help.

I'm a long term investor in BTC and ETH. I really don't plan to sell for 5+ years. However, I got a small amount (0.16) of Bitcoin cash I forgot to claim from a while back. What do you guys think is the best move with the $250. Is BCH a good longer term hold or is their other coins that have a good future. submitted by /u/HundredRAWR [link] [comments] Read More

Why does YC call Request Network the next PayPal?

Decentralized payment platform. Pay with whatever currency you want, wherever you are with additional options like escrow, continuous payments, and automated taxation and accounting. Here are my top reasons on why I am holding REQ. 1)Token burning - The way I understand it, REQ tokens are burned with each transaction. This means REQ tokens will automatically appreciate in value. This alone is worth HODLing REQ tokens. 2)Currency Agnostic/Mass Adoption - The game changer for me is the fact that REQ can be used with fiat. The problem with most dApps is they are tightly coupled with cryptocurrency, and crypto isn't quite mass adopted yet. Joe six pack can use Request with fiat because of it's lower fee's over Paypal's and not care about the 'blockchain magic' that's going on beneath the hood. If normies start using Request, you know what that means? Mass Adoption! 3)REQ is backed by Y-Combinator - Need I say more? Y-Combinator is the Harvard of startup ac

Does the only thing bitcoin has going for it, is its first mover advantage?

I can't seem to find any reason to any invest in/trade bitcoins: Transactions are slow. Transactions are very expensive. Other cryptocurrencies solve all these problems, and offer more value. Yet bitcoin continues to rise. Is this simply because it happens to be the most popular coin and so everyone is just speculating?
