Is there any information about how much cryptocurrency is simply 'lost' over the past few years?

I've heard many, many stories of individuals who once had some early cryptocurrency on a drive, or on a paper wallet and it was lost. I've heard of trading sites and cleaners having to shut their doors, and taking all on-site currency with them. I've heard dozens of stories were, after enabling two-factor-authentication, traders got a new phone, and found themselves permanently locked out of their accounts, blaming the site when it's clear as day that it was their own fault. Fires, floods, and a lack of planning can make these assets seem very frail.

Is there any information about how much cryptocurrency is simply 'lost' over the past few years? I'm under the impression that lost currency helps push deflation. Is there a way to see, on the ledger, how much coin hasn't been touched since it's inception?
