Is this a solid trading strategy

Assuming that when BTC vs USD goes up, generally most altcoins vs BTC goes down.

So when BTC vs USD goes up, I'll trade that. When it starts to go on a bear run, I'll short it and buy into an alt that I now expect to go up vs BTC.

Then when the alt vs BTC ends its bull run and gets bearish, I'll sell it all for BTC and go back to trading BTC vs USD while also buying more BTC with USD.

I guess this is with the aim to make more BTC, not fiat. Does it sound reasonable. I still have some confusion about how to trade alts considering they're almost always paired with BTC.
