Is the Litecoin surge due to people wanting to own a whole coin vs buying Bitcoin?

I can understand why people would buy it for that reason but, at the same time, I don’t understand why people wouldn’t then read about other cryptos and buy those instead. I know Litecoin is a better version of Bitcoin but there are others which could be way better in every sense (including ROI) so yeah - is this rise purely because of that(?) because I don’t get it and don’t think Litecoin is special at all
