A question about Google 2FA and exchanges. Do I have to use the same phone/number?

Does the phone you use have to match at all with the info you signed up on the exchange with? I'm looking to set up Google 2FA but I want to use a different phone with a different number than what I registered with on the exchange.

I know this is such a simple question I am almost embarrassed, but I don't want to to try to set it up and get locked out of my exchange account while I wait 30 days for their support to finally get back to me.
