Is cryptocurrency similar to penny stock trading?

After reading up on penny stock trading I'm wondering whether a large section of the crypto trading market is quite similar.

I am invested in some of the smaller coins as well as Eth and btc and think it could be useful to hear everyone's advice on how many of the crypto forums are taken up by pump and dumpers getting to the front of the heard when it comes to giving advice.

Kind of a funny question considering each of the answers could be manipulating prices/ potentially untruthful.....

On the other hand, this could be a merit of Reddit considering there will usually be someone else reading to call any bullshit.

Would be cool to hear people's opinions on this
