Friends account hacked on Bittrex - funds withdrawn

One of my closest friends had an issue last week logging in into his Bittrex account, when all of a sudden 2-factor authentication was enabled and he had nothing to do with it. Bittrex support-ticket ultimately relied that the account was hacked and all funds have been stolen. We have access now and I can see all the transactions from August 30th. Is there anything we can do to trace back the IP and uncover them? Is there anything else that can be done?

Questions: - How can they login and have the new IP verified? This is through e-mail so don't know how that got verified? - Can we trace back the IP of mac-address? - Can anything be recovered? - Thanks for the help!
