Question about storing cryptocurrency

I know many people suggest putting bitcoin into hardware wallet or paper wallet before august 1st in order to prevent any loss. My question is should we also do the same for other altcoins? or just bitcoins? I don't have a hardware wallet right now and I am waiting for it to ship.
