Thoughts on Iota?

IOTA looks extremely promising. Awesome tech, but what is the thought behind getting it prior to it hitting the exchanges? Is it probable that it will increase when it hits the market, or "equally" likely that the existing coins will tank in price?

Looking for community thought prior to investing. Have looked around at the posts here and r/cryptocurrency but hoping for something more focused on the potential for a promising coin hitting the exchanges.
