Looking for advice about what to do with my Bitcoin holdings with the fork approaching?

I'm new to crypto and am currently holding a small amount of Bitcoin. My current plan is to exchange my Bitcoin for Ethereum next week because I've been wanting to buy and hold some ETH anyways and then after the fork I will cost average buying more Bitcoin every week over a 2 month period and hold for the longterm. Looking at maybe buying a small amount of Litecoin to hold as well. Any advice would be appreciated.
