Are crypto pairs different from forex pairs?

I ask because I'm not sure how I lost on a recent trade. I shorted eth/lxm at 0.00011014, I then bought back at 0.00009734. In forex that would have resulted in a net gain of ETH. For some reason I lost in that trade. Can someone help me understand how? The exchange is Bittrex
