Chinese Government: What can the US government due to hinder the growth of cryptomarkets/currencies in the years to come?

I was thinking about the effects that the Chinese administration on the markets these pass couple of days and was curious. (The question is asked open) What can the US governement do to hinder/destroy/reverse the cryptocurrency market?

I can see obvious regulations around ICOs which would limit growth but is there anything that can be established that could 'destroy' the market?
