How Can I trade USD with other Altcoins?

I am using Bittrex currently and I do not like how I have to convert to bitcoin and then convert to USD as that adds an extra layer of risk....

Is there an exchange at operates on a USD/steem, USD/Stratis, USD/Eth basis?

GDAX has a USD/ETH exchange correct? How do you guys address this problem of having to convert to bitcoins and then to dollars when you cash out?
