Exchange rate Tips and Tricks help

Hey gang, this is my first post so I apologize if I do something wrong. So I been following altcoins for a bit now and finally decided to purchase. I originally bought ETH on coinbase, then exchanged for Lisk via poloniex at 2.9. It's looking promising yay! My question is there an easier way of figuring the exchange rate besides doing the math? So when I eventually exchange them, should I do it back to ETH and then cash out or do it through bitcoin?

I guess the TLDR is what is the best way to calculate exchange rates and the best financial way if I want to cash out.
