Best way to USD -> Altcoins ?

Hello,

I am interested in diversifying my crypto portfolio and am just wondering if there is any cheaper, faster, or better way to procure alts such as XMR, VTC, Stellar Lumens than buying BTC from Coinbase (fee), xfering it to Bittrex (BTC fee), and exchanging (fee again).
