Is it even possible for newcomers to get into the crypto scene right now?

It seems all the exchanges are having overload problems and are not able to verify new members... i have been in limbo since last week when LTC was close to $100 so this is frustrating to see.. obviously coinbase is trash, but gemini doesnt seem much better. How is a new person supposed to buy coins?
