Are there ANY secure exchanges for buying Bitcoin that aren't down/not verifying identity right now?

I have been eager to get started investing, but have been unable to do so. Coinbase is not verifying my identity and bittrex is taking a long time as well.

I'd like to buy bitcoin on an exchange and use that bitcoin to invest in altcoins, if that makes any difference, but any and every site I try either looks suspicious or plain doesn't work.

Is there any solution at this point? Or do I just need to wait for them to sort it out?
