Possible to deposit USD directly into Poloniex account? Or only BTC?

My question is quite elementary...but is it possible to deposit Australian Dollars (AUD) or USD directly into my Poloniex account to begin trading?

Or is the only way; purchase BTC from a BTC exchange/market/other? then transfer the BTC to my Poloniex account? Relevant
