New in crypto need help ? please:)

Hello !

I'm new in crypto and there are some things i don't understand. So I have 2 questions and I hope someone will answer them. (Might be stupid questions but nvm haha)

1) Why do we need to look at the market cap of a coin before buying it ? Usually when the market cap is huge its a good sign ?

2) I was looking at charts of some altcoins and I noticed some coins get greater growth ( 100 times greater sometimes) in Dollars than in bitcoin. What's the reason of this difference ? Therefore is it better to buy in dollars ?
