How do I use portfolios?

Hi, I just got started yesterday and I'm interested to learn how to use the portfolio. I'm trying to use both online and the app on my phone but I'm not entirely sure how is the best way to do so.
 
Example:
I bought some ETH from Coinbase and I want to use those ETH to buy the other altcoins on say, Bittrex.
How do I go about doing it?
