Does the only thing bitcoin has going for it, is its first mover advantage?

I can't seem to find any reason to any invest in/trade bitcoins:

  • Transactions are slow.
  • Transactions are very expensive.
  • Other cryptocurrencies solve all these problems, and offer more value.

Yet bitcoin continues to rise. Is this simply because it happens to be the most popular coin and so everyone is just speculating? What am I missing to see?
