Thoughts on the future of crypto over the next 10-20 years
In keeping with the theme of cryptocurrency this is entirely speculative, but I'm interested in hearing what other people think the near-future may hold for crypto and by crypto I mean distributed-ledger technology in general.
For example,
By 2020 most of the major banks have implemented their own DLT, and a banking alliance regulate a meta-DLT for transactions between the bank scale DLTs.
The transactions themselves specify fiat currencies.
Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies continue to survive, but trade is pretty stagnant since similar functionality is offered by the bank DLTs.
Global economics continues to function as before, with nations having their own fiat currencies, the management of which is aided by DLTs but the idea of cryptocurrencies fall out of favour.
In the early 2020s, after another global financial collapse caused by reckless banking decisions, cryptocurrencies see renewed interest. Enforcing transparency seems to be only way of keeping greed in check. DLT technology however has moved on quite a bit and a so an entirely new cryptocurrency is created to serve as a new global currency.
And so forth...
I've limited knowledge of global affairs, economics and DLT technology so this is probably full of holes but I hope you see what I'm trying to do.
Feel free to critique or add your own alternative!! Do you think DLT could be used elsewhere? I'm sure you can and if so where do you see it thriving?
