Noob questions how to start trading.

I read for the past month about mining on various subreddits, but after all I have decided to start trading with cryptocurrencies and not to go into mining.

I'm sorry to ask such a stupid question, but how to buy Bitcoin? I have set up Electrum for my wallet.

But how to buy bitcoins, should I buy it on Coinbase? Should I keep trading there after purchase? Should I keep it on Coinbase? Is Bittrex good for trading? I do not like that you do not have an access to private key there.
