Noob question about investing

I have about $2000 to invest in cryptocurrency. I am planning to invest half of the money into one cryptocurrency and another half into another cryptocurrency. Would it be a good idea to invest $1000 into Bitcoin, since it is the most stable then invest the other $1000 into a low cost cryptocurrency that is increasing in value. Or should I just invest my money to two low cost cryptocurrency (I am thinking about XRP, ETC), so perhaps I can gain more.
