spotting sell-offs and downtrends

What's the best way (if any) to spot sudden sell-offs and the beginning of a downtrend in general ?

I've bought TenX and OMG few days ago as I've heard they're cheap at that time and will go up.

This is how it ended (and tbh, how it always ends when I buy something new).
