Should I invest on Ethereum since I can't get my hands on a hard wallet?

Good afternoon,

I've been following cryptocurrency for a couple of weeks now and I'm ready to invest. My main concern is that I won't be able to get a hard wallet fast enough to store my bitcoin in case a fork occurs. I was thinking in Investing in Ethereum since it seems to me that even if Bitcoin forks (which seems unlikely) I will still have my ether safe.

I'm sorry if the post is not technical enough, I would really appreciate some guidance.
