Best ETH wallet for long term use?

Newbie looking to get away from coinbase entirely if i can, what should wallet for long term ETH investment would you guys recommend? And is it true that a lot of people cant transfer their ETH to other wallets or exchanges if they have them on coinbase? Thank you
